POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Program Staff brings quality, coordinated activities and services in a wide range of offerings to the programs. The staff manages all aspects of the program experience including set-up, program implementation, and teardown, by leading the children directly. The staff will assist in development and planning of the program. The staff will implement and lead all program curriculums. Programs consist of a wide range of activities, including education, movement, art, music, sports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:2024

  1. Have passion and excitement for the YMCA mission, believe in and live out the core values, and enjoy your work!
  2. Actively participates with all children in providing a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual needs of both the individual child and the group.
  3. Maintains high visibility in all program areas with participants, leading programs, and engaging with all participants.
  4. Prepared to participate in all activities listed but not limited to swimming, sports outdoors, indoor, food prep and off site.
  5. Models’ appropriate interactions with the children individually and in groups and encourages their involvement in activities.
  6. Models’ appropriate positive guidance techniques that include redirection, positive reinforcement of children’s efforts, and anticipation of elimination of potential problems.
  7. Encourages identification and verbalization of feelings.
  8. Participates in the maintenance of the facility to ensure that it is always clean. This includes but is not limited to wiping off fingerprints, picking up trash, cleaning up spills, cleaning furniture, toys and supplies, sweeping up after meals, or art activities, wiping off tables, stacking chairs, etc. 
  9. Remains constantly aware of the growing needs of each child, offering new and enriching experiences as each child reaches a higher level of development.
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong understanding of youth programming and developmental behaviors.  History of working with youth in a day care, school, or other group setting.   
  • Within 60 days of hire completion of CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Must have or obtain Mandated Reporter training.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all segments of the community.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • The employee needs sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to safely supervise program activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
