POSITION SUMMARY
The Teen & Youth Family Director is responsible for creating welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environments that foster belonging, leadership development, civic engagement, and positive youth and family experiences. The Teen & Youth Family Director sets up the planning, implementation, and administration of YMCA youth, teen, and family programs, including Model Legislature Court programs, teen engagement initiatives, youth leadership opportunities, youth enrichment classes, and family-centered activities.
Responsibilities include cultivating meaningful relationships with youth, families, volunteers, and community partners; monitoring program quality and participant engagement; providing program information and support; facilitating youth leadership and civic engagement experiences; assisting with volunteer recruitment and management; supporting participant recruitment and retention efforts; and performing administrative and operational duties as assigned. The Teen & Youth Family Director also oversees staff support, program documentation, event coordination, and the implementation of strategies that strengthen participation, belonging, and positive outcomes for youth and families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Create a welcoming and supportive environment for all youth, teens, family, volunteers, and community participants. Takes time to build relationships, foster belonging, and create positive experiences that encourage continued engagement with YMCA programs and services.

Plan, coordinate, and deliver high-quality teen, youth, and family programs aligned with YMCA curriculum, program goals, and community needs, including Youth & Government, youth leadership initiatives, teen engagement programs, youth enrichment classes, and family centered activities.

Facilitate youth leadership, civic engagement, character development, and enrichment experiences that promote belonging, achievement, positive relationships, community involvement, and personal growth among youth and families.

Will Support administratively and attend our week of Sleep Away Camp.

Responsible for building small communities by facilitating connections with and between program participants, families, volunteers, staff, schools, elected officials, and community partners.

Process participant registrations, maintain program records, provide program information, and assist with participant recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.

Manage recruitment, onboarding, communication, and processing of program volunteers using designated YMCA systems and procedures.

Coordinate and support delegation meetings, conferences, service projects, enrichment classes, family events, leadership activities, special events, and community engagement opportunities while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for all participants.

Manage administrative tasks including, but not limited to, Paycom scheduling, auditing and approving timesheets, maintaining program documentation, preparing reports, and supporting daily program operations.

Manage staff supervision, training recommendations, appropriate staff coaching, and make disciplinary decisions when necessary.

Respond promptly and courteously to all complaints, questions, compliments, and inquiries while following appropriate YMCA procedures and providing excellent customer service.

Maintain close visual supervision of assigned program participants and ensure that appropriate participant-to-staff ratios are maintained in accordance with YMCA policies and program requirements.

No program participant is left unsupervised while attending YMCA programs, and staff are never alone with a program participant at any time.

Help program participants manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection, and constructive discipline utilizing natural and logical consequences.

Actively support the YMCA's commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) where appropriate.

Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintain program spaces and equipment, and maintain required program records in accordance with YMCA expectations.

Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with youth, families, volunteers, schools, elected officials, community organizations, and community partners. Engage families as volunteers and connect them to YMCA programs and services.

Attend and participate in Youth & Government delegation meetings, conferences, youth leadership events, family engagement activities, enrichment programs, special events, and other assigned YMCA functions.

Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, transportation, travel activities, and emergencies. Follow reporting procedures and proactively respond to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.

Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

AGE: 21 years-old or older
-
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent

RELATED EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years of experience working with teens and families in a program setting

SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values; communication skills

CERTIFICATIONS: Must hold or be willing to obtain within 60 days: Infant-Child-Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
