What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Teacher - Guntersville Elementary School position at YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN HUNTSVILLE?
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, the Certified Teacher will be responsible for leading the children in our Extended Adventures Program. In addition, the Teacher, along with the Site Coordinator, will plan and implement activities for elementary age children that build upon the skills needed to be successful in school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Developing and implementing appropriate enrichment classes for assigned grade levels.
- Preparing classrooms for daily activities and collaborating with academic teachers and teacher’s assistants to ensure that objectives are reached.
- Maintaining accurate classroom records.
- Maintaining an organized and efficient classroom.
- Adhering to all 21st Century Learning Center and district professional expectations and compliance issues.
- Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment.
- Motivating and holding scholars to high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for scholar behavior grounded in positive discipline.
- Empowering scholars to make positive choices and serving as a role model.
- Being accountable for meeting scholars’ individual academic and instructional needs.
- Model, practice and carry out the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator.
- Academic skills – proficiency in elementary math and literacy.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.

- Desire to work with elementary scholars and their families in under-resourced communities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS:
- CPR, First Aid certificate prior to the start of the program.
- Completion of Child Abuse Prevention training required prior to supervision of children.
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school with (elementary/middle school/K-8) children.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.

- Ability to work successfully with community-based agencies and building partnerships.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement program activities.
