JOB LOCATION: Wellmark YMCA
SHIFTS AVAILABLE: Tuesday Evenings from 4:30 PM - 7:25 PM *Opportunities for cross-training in additional YMCA roles available.*
PAY RANGE: $12.00 - $14.00/hour based on experience and availability
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: April 28, 2026 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
POSITION SUMMARY: Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for conducting YMCA swim lesson and ensuring participant safety at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. Engage parents in discussion around water safety.
- Maintain attendance and skill accomplishment records for each participant.
- Maintain teaching equipment and conduct routine checks to ensure participant safety. Organize and put away needed class equipment. Report any damaged equipment.
- Maintain constant visual surveillance of participants in the water.
- Train, supervise, and mentor new swim lesson instructors as assigned.
- Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, refer students and parents to other programs.
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and swim instructors in-services as scheduled.
- Represent the YMCA as a Leader of Aquatics Safety committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
