Our Tomlinson South Meridian YMCA is seeking Senior Head Guards to join the team. This position ensures safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck and surrounding areas of the aquatic's facility. Senior Head Guards must additionally comply with all of the roles and responsibilities of Head Lifeguards.
The South Meridian Branch of the Treasure Valley YMCA is unlike any other in the country. Our 60,000-square-foot facility is part of a unique collaboration that combines family recreation, education, sports, literacy, and wellness care on a single campus called “The Hill.” Hand in hand with our partners—St. Luke’s Health System, the West Ada School District, and the City of Meridian—the South Meridian Family Y will help us build A BETTER US.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position at 40 hours weekly. Schedule requirements are Monday through Friday, with potential for nights and weekends as needed. Starting Pay is $15.90-$19.88/hr. Additional $2.50/hr. Differential for Summer May 7th- Sept 6th or $18.40/hour. An additional $2.19/hr. for shifts between 5am and 9am.

Responsibilities:
- Create a safe environment for members and participants through active deck scanning, being on time and ready to respond quickly and appropriately while role modeling safe behavior.
- Designated First Responder.
- Engage members and participants in effective, age-appropriate communication. The down guard will actively engage with and encourage members during swim tests and lessons.
- Develop intentional relationships and engage members.
- Adhere to Aquatics Leading Practice Manual.
- Provide professional and appropriate feedback to participants and members as needed.
- Build relationships with members, participants and volunteers.
- Promote teamwork and cooperative effort.
Qualifications:
- Age – Must be 18 years of age or older upon hire.
- Must be able to differentiate between colors (red, yellow, blue and green).
- Ability to pass all standard safety drills with an 80% passing average.
- Ability to coach and give feedback in a constructive manner.
- Basic computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated skills in planning, time management, flexibility, organization and independent work proficiency.
- Adapt to multiple learning styles to assist in the development of staff.
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- First Aid – Prerequisite upon hire.
- Oxygen– Prerequisite upon hire.
- Basic Life Support– Prerequisite upon hire.
- Y Lifeguard– Prerequisite upon hire.
- Y Lifeguard Instructor– Prerequisite upon hire, 90-day compliance period.
