What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Instructor - West Boise YMCA position at YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF BOISE IDAHO INC?
Our West Boise YMCA is seeking dynamic and qualified Group Exercise Instructors. This position is responsible for creating a safe, friendly, and helpful atmosphere for members participating in group exercise classes.
Serving over 20,000 active youth, adult, and family members, the West Branch of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA helps members lead a healthier, happier life. Facility amenities and features include six fitness studios, three racquetball courts, full-court basketball gym, youth activity center, climbing wall, 50-meter swimming pool, and training pool.
Schedule:
This is a part time position, teaching 1-2 one-hour classes per week teaching group fitness.
Responsibilities:
- Develop intentional relationships and, using the Y voice attributes, create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants that helps them meet the two Cause Measurement goals for adults.
- Use the class platform to educate and inform participants about the Y Cause and other Y program offerings.
- Conduct class in a quality, fun, and safe manner that results in increased attendance. Follow fitness trends and utilize prescribed formats when applicable.
- Actively identify participants who need additional support, such as new members, health seekers, and participants with diverse abilities.
- Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants.
- Provide excellent delivery of land group exercise instruction to all members.
- Engage members to deepen their relationships in the Y cause.
- Monitor and ensure safety of participants, staff and volunteers in the land group exercise class.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge in group exercise instruction preferred.
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
Required Certifications:
- Base Certification required - Group Exercise National Certification or Foundations of Group Exercise at the Y.
- CPR/AED. Prerequisite upon hire - 14-day completion period.
- First Aid. Prerequisite upon hire – 14-day completion period, for instructors teaching CrossFit.
