What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Instructor (BODYPUMP)-Downtown Boise YMCA position at YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF BOISE IDAHO INC?
The Downtown Family YMCA opened its doors in 1964 and has since been a landmark in the Downtown Boise area. The facility has a full court basketball gym, a large cardio fitness center, multiple strength training systems and rooms, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, five fitness studios, three swimming pools, and multiple youth programming areas.
The Group Exercise Instructor for BODYPUMP is responsible for creating a safe, friendly, and helpful atmosphere for members participating in group exercise classes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop intentional relationships and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Use the class platform to educate and inform participants.
- Conduct class in a quality, fun, and safe manner that results in increased attendance. Follow fitness trends and utilize prescribed formats when applicable.
- Actively identify participants who need additional support, such as new members, health seekers, and participants with diverse abilities.
- Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants. Provide excellent delivery of land group exercise instruction to all members.
- Monitor class attendance for data tracking.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge in group exercise instruction preferred.
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
Required Certifications:
- Base Certification required - Group Exercise National Certification or Foundations of Group Exercise at the Y.
- CPR/AED. Prerequisite upon hire - 14-day completion period.
- First Aid. Prerequisite upon hire – 14-day completion period, for instructors teaching CrossFit.
Schedule:
This is a Part-time, averaging 1–3 hours per week. Schedule requirements are Monday–Friday between 5:15 AM and 6:45 PM. The greatest needs are Friday mornings, either 5:15 am or 6: 30pm. Instructors are expected to contribute to class coverage and subbing when needed.
