Summary:
The Mechanic I is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of agricultural, automotive, and construction equipment. This entry-level position works under supervision and supports day-to-day mechanical needs to ensure operational continuity on the farm.
Essential Functions:
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on farm and light-duty equipment.
Perform basic preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, and diesel engines.
Conduct repairs on lawn care equipment, utility trailers, and other farm tools.
Follow maintenance checklists to ensure equipment safety and compliance.
Assist with inspections and repairs of undercarriage and suspension systems.
Maintain work area cleanliness and organization.
Complete assigned work orders and report task completion.
Follow OSHA safety procedures and wear required PPE.
Skills & Qualifications:
Ability to diagnose basic mechanical issues.
Working knowledge of hydraulics and diesel engine systems.
Familiarity with safety protocols and maintenance checklists.
Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
3–5 years of general mechanic experience.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Associate degree or technical certification in diesel or heavy equipment repair.
CDL preferred but not required.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
This job operates in an agricultural setting. The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to machinery. Exposure to various outdoor elements such as dust, animals, and plants is common.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This position requires the incumbent to be physically present at the assigned worksite. The regular schedule is typically based on seasonal demands and may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Employees are also expected to work at least one non-convention farm event a year and to work at the annual company convention.
Exact hour requirements can be reasonably modified as necessary for the business needs by the employee's manager.
