What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Logistics, Operations, Transportation Coordinator position at Young Judaea Sprout Brooklyn Day Camp?
Summer Operations & Transportation Director – Sprout Brooklyn
Young Judaea Sprout Brooklyn Day Camp is a Hebrew dual-language day camp in Red Hook, Brooklyn for campers entering Pre-K through 5th grade. Hebrew experience not required.
Sprout Brooklyn is built on the belief that kids from every kind of background deserve a summer filled with joy, connection, and meaning. Our program is grounded in Jewish values, the Hebrew language, and a vibrant tie to Israel — and our staff is what makes it all come alive. We hire people who lead with enthusiasm, embrace whatever the day throws at them, and never pass the buck.
The Role
We have an opening on our Senior Leadership team for a Summer Operations & Transportation Director — the person who ensures that the logistical heartbeat of camp keeps on ticking. From bus routes to paperwork to jumping in wherever the day needs you, this is a role for someone who genuinely loves being in the middle of the action while keeping everything organized behind the scenes. If you are responsible, sharp, and energized by working alongside a team that cares deeply about what they do, we want to hear from you.
Salary & Time Commitment
This position pays $6,500–$7,000. Pre-camp prep begins in the spring and totals roughly 50 flexible hours, including Camper Orientation. Mandatory staff training runs June 14–18. The camp season is Monday–Friday, June 22–August 14, with hours running approximately 7:15am–5pm.
Responsibilities
Transportation You'll own all things transportation — building bus routes and schedules from the ground up, managing field trip logistics, and maintaining a strong working relationship with our bus company. You'll distribute updated route details ahead of each session and relay driver or route feedback as needed. Daily attendance and travel records will be kept current in the camp database, driven by real-time parent communication.
Bus Counselor Management You'll assign bus counselors to their routes, keep tabs on their attendance, and make sure they have the daily updates they need to do their jobs well.
Family Communication Parents will rely on you for timely route updates and to help them navigate any changes to their child's travel arrangements. Clear, responsive communication is essential.
Office & Administrative Support You'll assist with organizing camper and staff records, forms, and other essential paperwork. When the camp office needs an extra set of hands — whether for lost and found, supplies, or special event prep — you'll be there.
Senior Leadership As part of the leadership team, you'll contribute to the smooth running of the overall program, play a role in emergency response planning and execution, supervise bus counselors, and step in to cover groups or specialty areas when needed. Showing up for all-camp events and activities is part of the job.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree is required. You should bring real administrative experience, an eye for detail, and comfort with technology — including Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and a willingness to get up to speed on our camp CRM system. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, and you should be the kind of person who stays grounded when things get hectic. Knowledge of Brooklyn's neighborhoods and transportation landscape is a significant plus, as is any background working with kids or teenagers.
