POSITION OVERVIEW

The Program Coordinator - Volunteer and Community Relations – Community and Volunteer Relations will be assigned three primary areas of responsibility: (1) Manage and develop our volunteer network by nurturing current volunteers, recruiting and training new volunteers, and ensuring volunteer hours are accurately recorded in our database; (2) Represent the organization at various community events, including ensuring distribution of quality materials and information; (3) Collaborate with the Young & Healthy Educators to nurture community relationships and create opportunities for Young & Healthy to provide education programs in the Pasadena Unified School District and through community agencies. The Program Coordinator - Volunteer and Community Relations may be called upon to support other programmatic areas as needed. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manage and Support Volunteer Network

  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers in a variety of roles supporting Young & Healthy.
  • Maintain accurate systems for tracking volunteer hours and activities.
  • Prepare reports on volunteer engagement for funders, the Board of Directors, and Young & Healthy’s annual evaluation.
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive environment to ensure volunteers feel valued and appreciated.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager to plan and implement activities for National Volunteer Week, First Grade Dental Education, and the Mindfulness Program.

2. Represent Young & Healthy at Special Events and Activities

  • Educate Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of internal and external events, assuming full responsibility for designated projects.
  • Represent Young & Healthy at community events related to organizational services (e.g., KOHA, Teeny Teeth, sports physicals).

3. Engagement and Education

  • Partner with the Program Manager to cultivate and maintain relationships with schools, early childhood agencies, and community organizations.
  • Expand educational programming on topics including Health Equity, Trauma-Informed Care, Mindfulness, and Insurance Enrollment.

The Program Coordinator - Volunteer and Community Relations will be asked to constantly increase their knowledge about health equity, Trauma Informed Care, and best practices for volunteerism and nonprofit social media communications.

Internal Communications and Collaborations

The Program Coordinator - Volunteer and Community Relations will engage in on-going communication with the Program Director concerning newly identified needs emerging from our work, gaps in services, successes, and problems with outreach efforts.


They will attend and fully participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and other office-sponsored workday events.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Education / Experience

     A. B.A. or B.S. preferred

     B. Experience working with volunteers

     C. Familiarity with the greater Pasadena community a plus but not required.


2.    Special knowledge, skills, abilities, or experience desired

     A. Intermediate/professional working proficiency in English & Spanish is required

     B. Experience in non-profit organizations desired

     C. Strong written and oral communication skills

     D. Ability to be flexible, meet deadlines and work effectively to balance competing priorities

     E. Demonstrated leadership skills

     F. Ability to work with diverse populations

     G. Strong and positive interpersonal skills, ability to resolve conflict

     H. Ability to organize work, prioritize multiple tasks, and follow through on own initiative

     I.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

     J. Experience with FAMCare software or other client-based software


3.    Physical Requirements:

     A. This position requires regular travel to multiple locations. Employees must have access to a reliable personal vehicle, maintain a valid driver's license, and carry legally requires automobile insurance, as travel is an essential function of the role.

     B. Must be able to speak and hear

     C. Must be able to lift 20 pounds

     D. Must have sufficient stamina to work long hours, sit or stand for long periods, and concentrate for long periods of time

     E. Some after-hours and weekend work will be required.




This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Young & Healthy employees primarily work from our office in Pasadena, California. Our work week is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, with occasional evening and weekend work required.


The salary range for this position is $19.00 to $26.00 per hour. Young & Healthy offers paid medical benefits to full-time employees including dental and vision insurance, sixteen paid holidays, paid vacation on accrual basis, sick days, and a 401(k)-retirement plan after one year of full-time equivalent employment.
