We were founded in 1918 as Young & Franklin Tool Works on Franklin Street in Syracuse, but we’ve come a long way since then! Our product lines are low volume, high mix, and very tight tolerances. We manufacture, assemble and test valves and actuators for the Aerospace and Power Generation markets. Our 120,000 square foot facility houses R&D, Design Engineering, Assembly & Test, and an 80,000 square foot Machine Shop. We regularly invest in new machines but outdid ourselves in the last 18 months with 5 new machines! Pay Range: $110,000 - $170,000


Summary:

Provides overall leadership to the Manufacturing Engineering Department in designing, implementing, documenting and optimizing the manufacturing processes, procedures, and tools required to assemble, test, process, and manufacture high quality valves & actuators for the industrial gas turbine market, and hydraulic and pneumatic controls for the aerospace industry. Lead the ME team on operational improvements including utilization of the ERP system (Epicor), production equipment, tooling/fixturing, quality control, cost analysis, production processes and projects that support annual productivity goals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Manufacturing Engineering Department to achieve the production goals of the company. Direct and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team.
  • Plan, Lead, and Execute productivity improvement projects.
  • Plan, Lead, and Execute cost reduction projects.
  • Develop, evaluate, improve and document manufacturing processes. Design and develop manufacturing processes for enhancements, product changes and new products and related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost.
  • Develop and implement process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments. Analyze manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancements of quality, cost reduction and throughput. 
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, shop orders and concepts in accordance with the R&D and quality assurance functions.
  • Collaborate with configuration control and design engineering personnel regarding product tooling and design to ensure effective production methods.
  • Confer with purchasing personnel and vendors in determining product specifications and arranging equipment, parts or material purchase and evaluating products according to quality stands and specifications.
  • Estimate staffing requirements, production times and relative costs that provide data for operational decisions.
  • Work closely with production supervision and Group Leaders to develop, coordinate and implement technical training for employees.
  • Provide engineering support in production department to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Coordinate work with tool room personnel, assigned technicians and outside vendors.
  • Support company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, regulations and goods manufacturing practices.

 

Qualifications:

  • This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline; Master’s degree a plus.
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing concepts and ability to grasp modern technology quickly.
  • Minimum 10 years working experience in manufacturing particularly in a CNC machining environment.
  • A strong understanding of existing technology and the ability to model and develop the technology and equipment strategy of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of industrial engineering concepts and lean principles aimed at increasing productivity and the optimization of resources.
  • Very strong communicator and ability to direct the work of others.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Experience planning & maintaining budgets and reports.

May include lifting up to 10 pounds for files, computer printouts on occasion.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, mandatory hearing protection, and appropriate footwear. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
