Job Summary
Reporting to the school Principal and the Special Education Coordinator, the Self-Contained Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with moderate to severe disabilities, and evaluates and assesses student progress toward instructional and functional objectives. The Self-Conainted Special Education Teacher’s caseload of students spend the majority of the school day in their classroom.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Develops the annual Indiviudal Education Program (IEP) plans for a caseload of students with moderate to severe disabilities, including sending invitations to IEP team meetings and completing all related documentation.
- Provides specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP.
- Implements various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
- Maintains accurate service logs to document special education minutes provided in alignment with each student’s IEP
- Completed quarterly progress reports and tracks student’s progress toward IEP goals and grade level expectations
- Meet all special education documentation filing deadlines provided by special education coordinator
- Collaborate with related service providers to provide students holistic support
- Implements a classroom structure with consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with YACS culture norms
- Supports implementation of student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), including data collection and behavioral intervention support
- Provides instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff: assigns activities, provides guidance and instructional oversight.
- Performs all other duties assigned by the principal or special education coordinator
Professional Conduct and Other
- Participate in yearly Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Participate in assigned morning, lunch, and afternoon duties.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree (required)
● Teaching certification (preferred but not required)
● 1 Years of Teaching Experience (preferred)
● Love and appreciation for the arts and arts education
