Summary
Young Artists Conservatory of Music (YACM) is looking for a music teacher for after-school elementary concert band. This is a contract position for 27 weeks of instruction and will include leading a band program in two schools twice a week in Fairfield or Suisun or working with a cohort of youth outside of the school system, depending on the qualifications of the applicant.
Our youth outreach program, Music Matters, has been providing music education in schools since 2010. We are seeking one new concert band teacher to work with two of our participating schools, as well as one choral/vocal teacher to begin work with a new program in partnership with SCPD, "Music Matters for Behavioral Health." (These positions may potentially both be filled by the same candidate)
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience in a brass or woodwind instrument as your primary instrument, with acceptable proficiency in standard concert band instrumentation.
- Experienced instructor or band leader.
or
- Professional experience in choral directing or percussion ensemble directing.
- Experienced instructor or choir leader.
as well as:
- Excellent with children and adept at classroom management.
- Proven ability to scaffold music instruction.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to varied cultural and learning backgrounds.
- Possess a high degree of proficiency with your primary instrument.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree in music performance or music education.
- Possess an understanding of SEL practices, and how they pertain to a music classroom.
- Experience working with at-risk or justice-affected youth.
- Familiarity with the concepts and practical implementation of UDL.

- Must be able to pass background check.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must show proof of Covid vaccination.
