Part-Time Instructor of Nurse Assistant - School of Health Professions - Modesto Junior College 2025-2026

Salary: Doctorate Range: $92.09 to $128.22

(2025-2026 Certified Part-time Instructor/Overload Hourly Salary Schedule)

 

Part Time Faculty office Hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

The successful candidate will join a Nurse Assistant department that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.   

 

Under supervision of the Dean of Health Professions and teach Nurse Assistant students in clinical, Skills Lab and Human Simulation Lab environments in accordance with course descriptions, outlines and class schedules; evaluate progress of students, advise students concerning educational matters, and participate in activities that strengthen student success. The Nurse Assistant Clinical Instructor may not have any other responsibilities while supervising the clinical training. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants may be any licensed vocational nurse or registered nurse with no less than two years of nursing experience, of which no less than one year is in providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting. 

 

Two (2) years of full-time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one (1) year of which must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility. Within six (6) months of employment and prior to teaching a certification program, the licensed nurse shall obtain a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education courses in planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing. These must be courses approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or courses administered by an accredited educational institution. A transcript of successfully completed course(s) shall be sent to the CDPH and shall be used as a basis for approval of the qualifications of the instructor. 

 

May be a licensed Vocational or Registered Nurse meeting the qualifications above and approved by CDPH.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS

Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.

Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.

Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.

Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.

Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.

Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience in teaching in Nurse Assistant at the community college level. 

• Current knowledge of Nurse Assistant practice. 

• Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the clinical level. 

• Competent in new pedagogies, such as Nurse Assistant clinical practices, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity. 

• Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes; 

• Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and clinical practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students; 

• Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the clinical setting; 

• Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Nurse Assistant, especially as it relates to the relevancy of Nurse Assistant students’ lives, interests, and communities;  

• Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the clinical; 

• Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices. 

 

Example of Duties

GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Part of the teaching assignment may be online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide effective clinical instruction, consistent with the approved Nurse Assistant curriculum, at MJC and the clinical site.    

• Assist in the development of lesson plans and student evaluation methods. 

• Ensure students meet the requirements of each clinical training site agreement. 

• Attend clinical training site orientations and serve as a liaison between the clinical site and the Nurse Assistant Program Director. 

• Advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines.  

• Informing students of clinical requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.  

• Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress.  

• Maintaining attendance, scholastic, and other records and submitting them according to published policies and deadlines.  

• Developing, implementing, and assessing student-learning outcomes for clinical and using the results for improvement.  

• Engaging in data inquiry and self-assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity.  

• Participating in professional development activities to fulfill mandatory FLEX requirements  

• Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies to meet the needs of all learning styles.  

• Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.  

• Perform other duties as assigned.
