POSITION: Temporary Assistant Principal
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: Mid-January through March
SALARY: As Set by the Board of School Trustees
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Valid Indiana Teaching Certificate
Preferred: Master’s Degree, a valid Indiana Administrative Certificate, Elementary Teaching, Administrative Experience, Non-violent
Crisis Interventions, CPI Certified
SUPERVISOR: Elementary Principal
EVALUATED BY: Elementary Principal
SUMMARY: Potential duties to be discussed by Principal and Dean of Students upon interview.
Essential Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned
a. Serves as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.
b. Assists scheduling special events during the school day.
c. Supervises students during and outside of school hours.
d. Assists with staff evaluations, attendance, special education, and textbooks.
Students
a. Interacts with students to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level.
b. Listens and is receptive to student concerns.
c. Administers a program of student discipline.
d. Is consistent and fair in dealing with students.
e. Works to develop a positive rapport with students.
f. Helps students develop positive self-concepts.
g. Provides general supervision to students. Supervises extra-curricular activities outside of school hours.
h. Assists with attendance, student discipline, 504’s, staff observations, and textbooks.
Staff
a. Assists with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule.
b. Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers.
c. Assists with staff evaluation.
d. Reports to the principal the case of any employee whose performance is unsatisfactory and recommends the suspension and/or discharge of any employee whose services are so unsatisfactory as to warrant such action based on proper personnel documentation.
e. Recommends the number and type of positons required to provide adequate personnel for the implementation of effective educational programs and services.
f. Deals with staff members in a fair and impartial manner.
g. Communicates effectively with the school staff.
h. Works to promote positive morale within the building.
School and Community Relations
a. Keeps students, parents, and patrons informed of school activities and seeks to involve them when appropriate.
b. Is open and honest with the public.
c. Listens to parents and handles them with tact.
d. Cooperates with media representatives and makes appropriate information available to them.
e. Emphasizes the positive aspects of the school program.
f. Attends and/or supervises as many school-related activities as possible.
g. Participates in community activities.
h. Maintains relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside agencies.
Board of Trustees and Principal
a. Accepts and follows YCS School Board policy.
b. Maintains open communications with the high school principal and keeps him/her updated and informed of the school’s needs, activities, and programs.
c. Makes sound recommendations and provides supportive facts and information as necessary.
d. Effectively administers the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
e. Accepts and follows procedures.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, staff, and the school community. The ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and YCS School Board policies.
