ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting Services, is responsible for various financial and accounting functions including co-ordinating the month-end closing process, production of the consolidated Corporate financial statements, ad hoc account analysis, debt and investment accounting; and assisting in the implementation and maintenance of computerized accounting and financial reporting systems.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Co-ordinates the Corporate month end financial closing process for the Region.
- Assists with service delivery Departments and administration groups to meet closing schedules and ensure the transaction recording is in compliance with PSAB/GAAP.
- Administers Corporate debt accounting and analysis and Corporate investment portfolio accounting.
- Develops, maintains and produces the yearly Councillor remuneration package.
- Develops, produces, implements and monitors periodic financial reports and analysis to assist Departments in monitoring and forecasting program expenditures.
- Oversees documentation and charting of all procedures in the Financial Reporting section.
- Provides guidance and advice to accounting clerks regarding transaction recording procedures.
- Provides guidance to administrative Department staff with accounting and analytical requirements.
- Communicates material issues to the Manager in a timely manner.
- Responds to queries regarding accounting and financial reporting systems, policies and procedures and provides advice to inter-department staff on accounting matters.
- Assists with staff training initiatives for the implementation and utilization of Regional Financial Systems, as directed.
- Participates in and/or lead special projects, as assigned.
- Backs up other Senior Accountants in section, as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or Commerce or related field.
- Completion of a professional accounting designation program (ex. CMA, CGA) and registration with the appropriate Ontario Association.
- Minimum five (5) years financial and/or accounting experience in a large multi-divisional organization including account management, financial analysis, and finance/accounting related policy and procedure development.
- Demonstrated experience and solid skills utilizing ERP financial software.
- Knowledge of accounting and economic principles and practices, financial accounting controls, business management concepts, and related financial Provincial and Municipal statutes.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications as well as advanced proficiency utilizing spreadsheet, word processing, scheduling, access and presentation applications and proficiency utilizing Visio.
