POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to Senior Counsel, and under the guidance and direction of senior staff, is responsible for assisting in the representation of the Region before various court and administrative tribunals, conducting research on a wide variety of legal issues and assisting in the preparation of pleadings, affidavits, reports and documents.
COMPENSATION: $32.38 per hour

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Assist in the representation of the Region before various levels of court and administrative tribunals.
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents including: bylaws, memoranda of understanding, pleadings, affidavits, facta, contracts, document books, policies, reports and correspondence.
- Conduct legal research on a wide variety of issues, conduct analysis and draft legal memoranda.
- Review current and draft legislation.
- Close real estate transactions.
- Assist in providing legal support on a wide variety of operational, litigation and program planning/policy matters.
- Assist with departmental projects as required
- Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
- Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Branch or Department objectives.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Law (J.D./L.L.B.).
- Registered with the Law Society's licensing process.
- Strong research and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel to offsite locations, as required and have reliable vehicle for use on corporate business
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office, MS Word, Lexis Nexis Quicklaw or Westlaw eCarswell
- Ability to organize daily workload, set priorities and meet required deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and work cooperatively with staff and as part of a team.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
