Summary: York Imperial Plastic’s Metrology Technician is responsible for a multitude of functions which are vital to our production process. Duties include, but are not limited to, product inspection, testing, observation, & monitoring to ensure the quality of goods used for our production process. A successful Metrology Technician will work alongside the Quality Services Inspectors & Lab Technician and under the general supervision of the Chief Operations Officer to ensure products meet specifications, and work safely while assisting our team in providing the highest quality, defect free product, and excellent customer service as well as meet all the essential functions of the position.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions of the Metrology Technician include:

  • Adhere to all Company policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Maintain a consistent and prompt attendance record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Confer with members of the Quality Department to accomplish work activities.

· Utilize various metrology equipment & instruments to obtain precise measurements.

  • Perform both visual & dimensional inspections in accordance with customer requirements & procedures.
  • Prepare fully detailed part inspection layouts in conjunction with Lab Technician.
  • Coordinate with Lab Technician to complete gauge R&R studies.
  • Record product data.

· Ensure uniformity & consistency throughout the production process.

  • Record part data for analysis.

· Monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Evaluate & make decisions concerning product quality.

· Ensure products meet specifications and tolerances.

  • Communicate findings accurately in a timely manner.
  • Create and issue nonconformance placards, quality alerts & corrective action requests.
  • Communicate quality requirements to shift personnel.
  • Author & distribute scrap reports.
  • Generate & maintain compliance certifications for outgoing product.
  • Perform all incoming & secondary inspections.
  • Draft, maintain & update QIP’s for existing & new jobs.
  • Complete all dimensional, visual and physical tests alongside Lab Technician for part approval, PPAP.
  • Evaluate and maintain calibration records.
  • Perform all assigned duties of the Quality Services Inspectors & Lab Technician in their absence.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.

· Utilize our computer-based database programs, e-mail communication systems, and word processing software for data collection.

· Work independently and follow through on assignments as directed.

· Operate under pressure to meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.

· Assist with other departments related to the production process when necessary.

· The employee is regularly required to speak and hear while communicating effectively both verbally and in writing to co-workers, supervisors, customers, and outside vendors.

· The employee should possess the ability to determine when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. This may not involve solving the problem directly, but it is essential that the employee recognize where there is a problem.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus in order to perform visual inspections of materials, products, and processes.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Position Type: This is a part-time first shift position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., maximum 30 hours per week.

Required Education and Experience:

1. High School Diploma or GED.

2. 5 years factory-related experience in a quality assurance function.

3. Ability to read and interpret engineering & technical documentation.

4. Strong verbal & written communication skills.

5. Strong technical & manufacturing aptitude.

6. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.

Preferred Education and Experience:

1. Proficiency with SPC capabilities.

2. Comfortable using Quality measurement tools.

3. Knowledgeable of CMM/OGP programming/operation.

4. Experience in plastics manufacturing.
