Residential Designer – Kitchen, Bath & Whole-Home Remodeling

About the opportunity
At York Enterprises, you’ll work alongside the crews who build what you design, from first concept through final walkthrough. We’re a Tacoma Design-to-Build firm that has served the South Sound since 1979, and we’re looking for an experienced Residential Designer to join our team.
In this role, you’ll lead client design meetings, develop layouts, guide material and finish selections, and prepare design documentation. You’ll work closely with company leadership, estimating, and our construction team to carry projects from initial concepts through construction. This is a key position with room to grow as our company grows.

What you’ll do
- Lead client design meetings and presentations, from initial concepts through final selections.
- Develop floor plans, space-planning concepts, and cohesive interior and exterior designs.
- Prepare drawings, renderings, and material presentations that clearly communicate design recommendations.
- Guide clients through cabinetry, fixture, lighting, material, and finish selections.
- Develop design scopes and coordinate them with drawings, selections, and specifications.
- Direct drafting support and review drawings for accuracy and consistency.
- Work with estimating and construction staff to evaluate feasibility, keep designs within budget, and recommend alternatives.
- Manage your design projects through our established Design-to-Build process and help resolve design questions during construction.
What we’re looking for
- At least five years of residential design experience, including leading client presentations.
- A portfolio demonstrating residential space planning, interior design, and design documentation.
- Working knowledge of residential construction, cabinetry, and coordination with structural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and 2020 Design.
- Clear communication and confidence presenting design recommendations to clients.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and reliable follow-through.
- A collaborative approach, including the judgment to know when engineering or other technical input is needed.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for client meetings and jobsite visits.
- Ability to work from our Tacoma office.
Nice to have
- Experience with Buildertrend.
- Experience with additions, ADUs, DADUs, or custom homes. You don’t need expertise in every project type.
- NKBA certification (AKBD or CKD).
