What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Assistant (HR) (WAR) position at York County?
Responsible for a variety of professional level duties in the Human Resources Department pertaining to employee benefits, wellness programs, and the retirement process. Provides analytical and technical support in the delivery of the benefits programs. Receives and responds to a variety of inquiries from County employees related to benefits and retirement.
Supports the administration of employee benefits programs to include health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, deferred compensation, life insurance and other related benefit programs. Assists with benefits and retirement options through the County’s Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and/or vendor portals.
Handles the administration of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), short-term disability and long-term disability, requiring knowledge and understanding of the federal regulations and time requirements.
Assists with the administration of the County’s Wellness Program to include implementing wellness initiatives.
Assists employees with questions and use of systems regarding employee benefits, wellness and/or retirement.
Assists with the coordination of employee benefit and wellness related events. Associate’s Degree with 1 to 2 years of experience with employee benefits; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks to include background checks and DMV records checks. Comprehensive knowledge of self-insured and fully-insured health insurance plans and various benefit programs. Comprehensive knowledge of the variety and structure of retirement plans to include defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans. Comprehensive knowledge of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations and requirements. Thorough knowledge of technology tools, including office software and spreadsheets for data analysis. Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills. Ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned tasks within specified time frame. Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines which include a computer, copier/scanner, printer, etc. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking, standing, bending, lifting, and stooping for various periods of time.
