What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Planner position at York County, Virginia?
Responsible for directing and coordinating the daily activities of the Planning Division. Formulates, modifies, and improves comprehensive and related plans for the orderly development of the County. Responsible for acting as a technical advisor to the Director of Planning and Development Services, Deputy County Administrator, County Administrator and, as assigned, County and regional commissions, committees, and officials in matters relating to comprehensive planning, zoning, and other planning issues. Supervision is exercised over professional and clerical personnel who gather, evaluate, and report physical, social, economic, and technical data upon which planning recommendations and positions are based.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in planning or public administration and six (6) to nine (9) years of experience in land use planning or related areas including progressively responsible supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Supplemental Information
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners is preferred.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, tape recorders, calculators, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must also be able to make site inspection visits, including walking/traversing site. Physical demand requirements are for those for Sedentary Work.
