What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Manager position at York County, VA?
Performs complex professional and administrative work in managing the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of County facilities and transportation infrastructure; provides engineering support to Facilities Operations; supervises staff engineers project managers, and facility operators; performs related work as required. Work is performed under minimal supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Works.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering and project management experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Comprehensive knowledge of engineering concepts and practices.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction, particularly in the areas of engineering as it relates to the design of County infrastructure (vertical construction, building construction, etc.).
Comprehensive knowledge of modern management principles and procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of project management and the ability to prioritize and delegate work effectively.
Thorough knowledge of local government, land use regulations, urban planning, and budget and procurement processes.
Supplemental Information
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Attends committee and board meetings and represents the department; serves as a County liaison to VDOT.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office equipment including calculators and computers, and surveying and drafting equipment. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
