Head Varsity Softball Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director / School Principal
Classification: Supplemental / Coaching Stipend Position

Position Summary

The Head Varsity Softball Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the high school varsity softball program. The coach will promote advanced skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character while ensuring a safe, competitive, and positive experience for all student-athletes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct effective practices that emphasize advanced fundamentals, team strategy, and player development.
• Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities.
• Teach and model good sportsmanship, leadership, respect, and ethical behavior.
• Ensure compliance with district policies, school rules, athletic department expectations, and league regulations.
• Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices and games.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, school staff, and administrators.
• Collaborate with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, transportation, equipment, and facility use.
• Maintain accurate records, including rosters, eligibility, statistics, and required documentation.
• Promote the academic success, accountability, and positive behavior of student-athletes.
• Assist with inventory, care, issuance, and return of athletic equipment and uniforms.
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development related to coaching and student safety.
• Support the overall athletic program and foster a positive culture within the softball program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
• Prior softball coaching experience at the high school or higher level preferred.
• Previous playing experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of softball rules, game strategy, and skill development appropriate for high school athletes.
• Ability to effectively lead and mentor high school students.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Completion of all required coaching certifications and background checks.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate skills during practices and games.
• Ability to lift and move athletic equipment.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Work Environment

• Primarily outdoor settings.
• Exposure to noise, crowds, and physical activity typical of athletic events.
