Responds to on-campus crimes and disturbances; patrols the campus and surrounding areas; responds to emergencies in a safe, calm, and effective manner; monitors campus buildings, including fire/intrusion alarms and remote systems; provides security escort services and emergency assistance for students and employees as needed; assists with crowd control during special events; investigates crimes and incidents and writes reports; and uses contemporary law enforcement practices with an emphasis on maximizing the use of available technological resources, community-oriented (proactive and coactive) policing, and a public safety vision based on the department's values.

OUTCOME
- Contributes toward the quality of life on campus by ensuring a stable environment in which security is balanced with freedom of movement on an open campus.
- Patrol College properties and surrounding areas as assigned by foot, bike or vehicle, to prevent incidents. (25%)
- Respond to emergencies and incidents in a timely manner; determine the appropriate course of action and notify law enforcement officials or other members of the campus community as appropriate. (10%)
- Promptly provide emergency first aid and/or request other related medical services as needed. (5%)
- Gather and compile information, write comprehensive reports, and maintain accurate daily logs and forms. (10%)
- Enforce College rules and regulations, student code of conduct, and local and state laws. (10%)
- Enforce campus traffic and parking regulations; issue citations and/or warnings as appropriate. (5%)
- Provide student and employee security escort services as requested. Respond to requests in a timely and courteous manner. (2%)
- Respond to fire, trouble signal, supervisory, panic, and burglar alarms. Assist in conducting fire alarm testing and drills. (5%)
- Staff special event assignments, including athletic competitions, homecoming and commencement. Maintains crowd control, traffic control and provide instructions and directions to event attendees and staff. (5%)
- Act as an information resource for visitors and community members. Employ effective community policing techniques, ensuring positive and professional interactions are maintained with the York College community members. (5%)
- Lock and unlock campus buildings. (5%)
- Testify in conduct and criminal hearings as required. (5%)
- Interact with local law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies and assist as needed or directed. (3%)
- Perform other duties as assigned (5%)
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED
- High School diploma or GED.
- US citizen
- Valid Driver's License: Must have been in possession of a valid operator's license for not less than three (3) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period.
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- PA Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training certification or the ability to obtain this certification within 3 months of hire;
- Successful candidates must also satisfactorily complete psychological testing, a medical exam, drug screening, a criminal history check, and a comprehensive background examination. Must meet the vision standards set by the PA State Police as part of Act 235.
- 1-3 years of prior law enforcement or security experience
- College degree in an appropriate area of specialization;
- Prior law enforcement or military police certification;
- 1-2 years of experience working at an institution of higher education;
- 1-2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Possess Act 235 in accordance with PA Law, and carry weapons defined as lethal by PA Law while on duty.
- Properly and safely carry and use various security devices.
- Attend training courses and departmental meetings.
- Ensure the response to incidents is within accepted police practices and principles, departmental policies and procedures, and IACLEA Standards of professional conduct.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
- Must meet such medical and physical standards as may be prescribed by the College.
- A keen sense of commitment to punctuality and timelines.
- Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
- Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills.
