Position Summary
Job Description:
Applications are invited for multiple positions of Adjunct Professor of Applied Music in the Department of Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) to teach applied studio music lessons in multiple areas of performance expertise. Depending on an applicant’s strengths and experience, a range of courses could also be part of the teaching duties. Other duties include holding office hours, attending semesterly juries, providing up-to-date syllabi, reporting grades, and communicating with department faculty and administration.
Please note: These positions are based on need and availability. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates should specify which instrument(s) they are qualified to provide instruction for. The VPA Department at YCP is currently recruiting for positions in String Bass Instruction and Virtual Instrument Instruction.
Outcome:- Successful candidate will instruct weekly lessons to individual students during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Essential Functions
- Set up a regular lesson schedule and instruct weekly lessons within the semester session dates.
- Develop a course syllabus according to departmental guidelines.
- Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Maintain regular office hours and participate in studio classes, student recitals, and end-of-semester juries.
- Submit semester onset attendance verification reports, mid-semester progress reports, and final grades according to college regulations.
- Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty to build and maintain the music program.
- Support student performances at music events where possible.
Experience and Education Required
- Educational Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in music performance preferred, bachelors in a music field is required.
- Experience:
- Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred, including experience gained while in graduate school.
- Professional performance experience in the field is expected.
