DESCRIPTION

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Waste Facility Worker I OR Waste Facility Worker II in the Integrated Waste Division of the Community Services Department.

THE POSITION
The candidate selected for this position may be hired as a Waste Facility Worker I OR a Waste Facility Worker II, based on experience, and at the discretion of the appointing authority. The salary range for each classification level are as follows:
  • Waste Facility Worker I: $51,584.00 - $62,712.00 Annually
    The Waste Facility Worker I is the entry-level classification in this classification series. Initially, incumbents work under close supervision and are given detailed instructions in the performance of routine waste facility maintenance and repair tasks that are more structured and repetitive than those assigned to the Waste Facility Worker II. As skills and knowledge are developed, incumbents are expected to perform increasingly difficult assignments with more responsibility.
  • Waste Facility Worker II: $56,742.40 - $68,972.80 Annually
    The Waste Facility Worker II is the journey level classification responsible for performing the full range and scope of work. Incumbents work under general supervision and are expected to be proficient in performing a variety of responsible and difficult skilled waste facility tasks.
The ideal candidate is a reliable, safety-minded team player who takes pride in hands-on work and enjoys being part of an operation that keeps the community clean and running smoothly. They bring a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, outdoor environment. In this role, the ideal candidate supports the daily operations of a solid waste facility. They have experience, or a strong interest in learning, how to safely handle materials, support recycling efforts, direct traffic, and maintain a clean and organized site. They are comfortable working around heavy equipment, adapting to changing priorities, and following established safety and environmental guidelines. As they gain experience, the ideal candidate takes on more responsibility, operates equipment, and may assist in guiding newer team members. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are important for success in this role. This candidate enjoys physical, meaningful work, values safety, and is motivated to contribute to essential public services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications required for a candidate to proceed in the selection process are as follows:
Waste Facility Worker I

  • Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
  • Experience: No experience necessary. See note below.
  • License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.
Note:
  • Experience: Experience in landscaping, grounds keeping, building and/or road repair, construction, or other closely related duties is highly desirable.
  • Certification Requirements: Documentation of successful completion of 24-hours of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training, Powered Industrial Truck Operator (forklift) training, backhoe training, loader training, and telehandler training is required within the first six months of employment. All certifications must be maintained as required.
Waste Facility Worker II
  • Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least one year of maintenance experience in landscaping, grounds, building repair, road repair, construction, or other closely related duties similar to the Waste Facility Worker I class.
  • License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.
Note:
  • Certification Requirements: documentation of successful completion of 24-hours of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training, Powered Industrial Truck Operator (forklift) training, backhoe training, loader training, and telehandler training is required within the first six months of employment.
