Our engineering team is growing, and we are seeking an Optical Systems Engineer to augment our product development program around our flow imaging microscopy platforms. The role will focus on both new product development and continuous improvements of Yokogawa Fluid Imaging’s current instrumentation suite.
The Optical Systems Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and will have the support of our experienced, diverse engineering team. The preferred candidate will be a skilled Optical Systems Engineer with 5 years’ experience who has impeccable attention to detail and a focus on system design.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Optical and illumination design for microscopy, Zemax preferred
- Performance testing of optical systems
- Image processing
Experience and Technical Requirements:
- Product Design and Development Experience
- Developing prototype designs into volume commercial products
- Design of experiments, verification and validation procedure drafting
- Optical modeling/simulation: Zemax Preferred
- Familiarity with ISO 10110
- Ability to manage design iterations in an organized way
- Optical Design for Microscopy Experience
- Optical system design
- Laser system design
- Stray light analysis
- Illumination system design
- Tolerance studies for manufacturability
- Signal & Image Processing Experience
- Algorithm development, C/C preferred
- Familiarity with FPGA is a plus
- Microfluidics Experience
- Understanding of particle behavior in microfluidic channels
- Structured flow channel development
- Strong teamwork—collaborative, collective problem-solving skills

Education Level Required:
- M.S. in a relevant engineering discipline with 10 years of professional experience. PhD preferred.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves working in and moving around an office environment, lab, and assembly production environment. It involves extensive use of a computer. This role involves constant communication with employees, vendors, contractors, and business stakeholders. On occasion, work outside of regular business hours may be required.
