About the Position
Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is seeking a motivated and organized Herb Pharmacy Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of our Herbal Pharmacy and Community Clinic. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chinese Herbal Medicine professional who enjoys a combination of patient care support, operations, inventory management, and student mentorship.
Working closely with clinic leadership, you will help ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the herbal dispensary while supervising students completing practical herb lab training. This position also plays a key role in several exciting projects, including the implementation of new dispensary software and the renovation of our Herb Lab.
This position is designed as a leadership development opportunity with the potential to advance into the Herb Pharmacy Manager role following successful performance and demonstrated readiness.
What You'll Do Daily :
Herbal Pharmacy Operations
- Oversee the procurement, preparation, and dispensing of raw herbs, herbal concentrates, patent formulas, and customized prescriptions.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and coordinate purchasing and restocking.
- Ensure herbs are properly prepared using appropriate cutting, crushing, washing, and cooking techniques.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary dispensary.
- Monitor the operation and maintenance of the herbal tablet machine.
- Maintain accurate dispensing records and ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, and regulatory standards.
Student Training & Supervision
- Supervise students and interns completing Herb Lab practical training.
- Verify prescriptions are prepared accurately and safely.
- Track student herb lab hours and assist faculty with practical training activities.
- Foster a positive learning environment while maintaining high professional standards.
Special Projects (2026)
- Assist with the implementation of Dispensary Tree software, including data migration, workflow development, and staff/student training.
- Support the renovation and modernization of the YSU Herb Lab by coordinating with clinic leadership and contractors.
Leadership Development
During 2026, you'll work alongside clinic leadership to learn operational management, vendor relations, and workflow supervision in preparation for promotion into the Herb Pharmacy Manager role.
Qualifications:
Required
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, or a related healthcare field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of Chinese herbal medicine, herbal pharmacology, preparation techniques, and safety standards.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in one or more of the following:
- Healthcare
- Administration
- Customer service
- Personnel support
- Health and wellness operations
- Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an academic clinical environment.
Preferred
- California Licensed Acupuncturist.
- NCCAOM certification in Chinese Herbal Medicine.
- Experience with inventory management, dispensary operations, or healthcare software systems.
