YMCA Buffalo Niagara operates two premier summer overnight camps in Western New York.

YMCA Camp Kenan ) overlooks beautiful Lake Ontario on 50 acres near Barker, NY.

YMCA Camp Weona ) is nestled among 800 acres of hills and forests in Gainesville, NY.

Camp activities include swimming, archery, low & high ropes challenges, climbing wall, gaga ball, arts & crafts, nature, science, and more.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with the health care plan. Responsible for the overall health, safety, and well-being of campers and staff.

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a residential position where food and lodging are provided during hours of work. The work week follows the camper session which begins each Sunday and ends on Friday with a 24 hour break in-between. Dates of employment include a week of training starting June 14, 2026, and concludes on August 15, 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assess each camper's ability to participate in camp activities upon arrival.

  1. Determine the health status of campers and staff on a continuing basis.

  2. Provide competent first aid and emergency treatment for sudden illness and injury.

  3. Maintain procedures to prevent and control the spread of contagious disease in camp.

  4. Follow and enforce department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Ensure PPE compliance.

  5. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the program/work areas.

  6. Act as overall supervisor of safety and sanitation throughout the camp.

  7. Maintain the medical records for all campers.

  8. Establish a procedure for medical treatment.

  9. Review standing orders with the camp physician.

  10. Establish a working relationship with each staff member.

  11. Establish procedures and maintain quality control of the infirmary.

  12. Participate in pre-camp training and instruct staff on first-aid treatment and infirmary procedures.

  13. Provide instruction on proper health care to campers.

  14. Set and maintain regular infirmary hours.

  15. Adhere to and properly execute emergency procedures.

  16. Participate in staff meetings.

  17. Facilitate fire drills during the first 48 hours of each camp session and maintain records.

  18. Conduct cabin, bathroom, and kitchen inspections regularly. Notify management of problems immediately.

  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 21 years old.

  1. Must be a New York State licensed Registered Nurse, New York State licensed Practical Nurse, or Emergency Medical Technician.

  2. American Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR/AED certification is preferred and required before starting work at camp.

  3. Experience in emergency medical treatment situations.

  4. Experience working with children and adults.

Pay: $100 per day
