YMCA Camp Loma Mar is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic seasonal Program Director to lead our dynamic overnight summer camp programs and other seasonal programming from January through October. Each summer, YMCA Camp Loma Mar provides hundreds of children with transformative experiences, fostering connections with nature, building lifelong friendships, and creating lasting memories through diverse activities. Beyond summer, the camp offers year-round programming for all ages, making it a cornerstone for outdoor adventure and community engagement. In partnership with the Operations Director, this position has primary oversight of the overnight summer program which runs June 7 - July 26. The Program Director will oversee the development and execution of high-quality, mission-driven programs that embody the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in a safe and inclusive environment. Responsibilities

  • Planning: Fosters a climate of innovation to develop participant-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.

  • Staffing: Shares responsibility for all stages of employee life cycle for seasonal teams of up to 40; Develop and motivate mission-driven staff team.

  • Program Management: Directly supervises assigned program / operational areas; On-site manager responsible for all facets of overnight summer camp that runs 6 weeks, with an average of 150 campers per week; work with Operations manager to grow and manage weekend group/rentals, and family camp programming.

  • Logistics: Oversee inventory management, compliance, and operations.

  • Customer service: Respond to inquiries in a timely manner, provide excellent customer service, handle sensitive and escalated matters for prospective and attending camp families.

  • Safety: With support, manage compliance processes and insures implementation of all required policies for camps as applicable; Trains and enforces a safe and engaging environment for children

  • Crisis management: Respond to emergencies, behavioral issues, and medical needs

  • Relationship building: Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.

  • Budget: Manage and monitor assigned budget(s) to meet or exceed budget targets, in accordance with Association procedures.

  • Facilities: Ensures the safety of all, works to maintain a sanitary facility, and reports maintenance issues to appropriate personnel to meet the needs of the Association's safety, service, and security objectives.

  • Leadership: Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.

  • Other: Special project or other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.

  • Proven leadership skills in staff management and development

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to meet multiple demands and priorities and lead with a high level of emotional intelligence and maturity

  • Ability to think conceptually, analyze and solve problems, and demonstrate assertiveness to manage the scope and diversity of the responsibilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and other computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the job

  • Lifeguard/ACCT or ability to obtain prior to start of camp season.

  • CPR, First Aid, AED and O2 certifications must be obtained within first 60 days

Requirements

  • At least 25 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required

  • At least two prior seasons of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp or in a summer program working with children

  • Past management or leadership experience is required; experience hiring and managing teams of 5 or more is preferred

Additional Job Requirements

  • On-site management at camp can be physically demanding, with extended periods of time on your feet, outside and occasional activity requiring physical exertion.
