The YMCA is seeking an energetic, dependable, and team-oriented Aquatics Coordinator to lead lifeguard staff, support aquatic operations, and help deliver exceptional experiences for members and guests.
Position Summary:
In accordance with the YMCA’s Christian Principles, the Aquatics Coordinator supervises aquatic facilities, programs, and staff to help ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. This role supports daily aquatic operations while promoting the YMCA’s Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
This is a hands-on leadership position that combines staff supervision, pool operations, member engagement, and safety oversight. The ideal candidate is passionate about aquatics, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys leading by example while helping create positive experiences and strong program retention within YMCA Aquatics.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise, schedule, and support all lifeguard staff
• Work guarding shifts as needed based on pool demand and seasonal needs
• Recruit, train, and develop lifeguards to maintain the highest safety standards
• Help coordinate aquatic events including birthday parties, pool parties, and swim meets
• Assist with preparing pools for inspections and maintaining facility readiness
• Maintain accurate records for water readings, schedules, and maintenance logs
• Know, enforce, and uphold all aquatic rules, procedures, policies, and guidelines
• Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed properly
• Respond to member questions, concerns, and needs in a professional and positive manner
• Return aquatics department phone calls and communications promptly
• Assist the Aquatics Director with planning and conducting in-service trainings
• Attend all required trainings and staff meetings
• Communicate important updates and operational needs to the Aquatics Director in a timely manner
• Report safety concerns, violations, and operational issues to supervisors immediately
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Current YMCA or American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid
• At least 2 years of aquatic experience
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
• A mature, dependable, and safety-focused mindset

• Require adherence to all YMCA abuse risk policies and procedures
