This position ensures safe, high-quality programming while developing staff, engaging members and participants, and maintaining compliance with YMCA standards and applicable regulations.
Essential Functions
- Oversee daily operations of the aquatics department, including pools, programs, schedules, and activities.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and develop aquatics staff, lifeguards, instructors, and volunteers.
- Ensure compliance with YMCA, health department, safety, risk management, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Develop and evaluate aquatics programs that meet the needs of members and the community.
- Monitor staffing, certifications, training, and lifeguard coverage to maintain safe operations.
- Manage department budgets, supplies, equipment, and facility needs.
- Promote exceptional member service and create a welcoming, inclusive environment.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and safety concerns and ensure required documentation is completed.
- Collaborate with other departments and leadership to support overall YMCA goals, membership engagement, and community impact.
- Participate in YMCA events, staff meetings, trainings, and other organizational activities as needed.
- Promote and maintain a safe, supportive environment for all youth in our care by following child abuse prevention and safety protocols, recognizing and reporting concerns, and consistently modeling appropriate professional boundaries and interactions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in a related field preferred.
- Previous aquatics, lifeguarding, or supervisory experience required.
- Current YMCA or nationally recognized lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies and maintain a safe aquatics environment.
- Successful completion of a national background check.
