The Health & Wellness Group Exercise Instructor at the Greater Waterbury Y instructs group exercise classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within class. Modifies class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.

Qualifications
- Experience teaching group fitness classes preferred.
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- National certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, or NASM) or YMCA group exercise instructor certification is required. Certification in area of expertise required.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor.
- Asks and answers questions from participants to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
- Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
- Keeps accurate class attendance records.
- Maintains all required certifications, pursues training and learning opportunities for self.
