Responsible for the overall leadership, management, and day-to-day operations of all Aquatics programs at the YMCA of Mount Vernon.

Job Description

The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and day-to-day

operations of all Aquatics programs at the YMCA of Mount Vernon. This role includes staff

supervision, program scheduling, safety oversight, and implementation of swim curricula. The

Aquatics Coordinator operates independently to ensure high-quality programming and a safe

aquatic environment, with guidance and oversight from the Director of Membership & Community

Engagement

Qualifications

• One to two years related experience preferred
• Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
• Completion of Red Cross Lifeguard and YMCA swim lesson instructor trainings
  
  

Essential Functions

• Staff Leadership & Development
• Hire, train, supervise, and mentor swim instructors and lifeguards, including onboarding,
  
  

performance management, scheduling, and payroll.

• Plan and facilitate staff meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development
  
  

opportunities.

• Program Management & Operations
• Plan, coordinate, and manage all Aquatics programs (swim lessons, lifeguard courses,
  
  

private lessons, and pool usage).

• Maintain schedules, attendance, rosters, and participant progress tracking.
• Serve as on-deck supervisor for swim lessons.
• Safety & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with YMCA and Red Cross safety standards.
• Implement emergency procedures, administer first aid/CPR as needed, and maintain
  
  

accurate incident reporting.

• Conduct daily and weekly inspections of pool, equipment, and facilities.
• Member & Community Relations
• Maintain positive relationships with members, participants, and community partners.
• Respond to inquiries, concerns, and class cancellations promptly.
• Compliance & Administrative Duties
• Track and maintain staff certifications, program records, chemical logs, and safety
  
  

checklists.

• Ensure implementation of Y-USA swim curriculum in all lessons.
• Program Growth & Initiative
• Identify opportunities to improve programs, increase participation, and enhance member
  
  

experiences.

• Other Duties
• Perform additional tasks as assigned to support Aquatics department and YMCA mission
  
  

Required Certifications

Lifeguard certified (or willing to obtain) and ready to become a Lifeguard Instructor and Swim Lesson Instructor
