Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Camp Counselor supports the mission of the West Morris Area YMCA by fostering a passion for the joy of learning and adventure in children.

Must be at least 17 years old.

Junior/Senior Counselor Positions available.

Qualifications

• CPR/First aid certification (preferred).
• Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA.
• 1-year experience working with children in a learning or camp environment (preferred).
• Ability to effectively relate to diverse groups of people from all socio-economic backgrounds and communities.

Essential Functions

• Maintains a culture of safety.
• Supports assigned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, clean-up, fire drills and other procedures required.
• Administer EMERGENCY First Aid and/or CPR to any injured person as needed.
• Maintain records and forms required by the Senior Youth Services Director.
• Supervise and discipline children based on written policies.
• Counselors consult with the Camp Leadership on any questions of policy or procedure, disciplinary action, or safety.
• Ensure that areas, equipment, and facilities used by the students are maintained in a clean, serviceable, safe, and orderly manner.
• Share skills and talents for the improvement of the program.
• Prepare and distribute snacks.
• Additional tasks as assigned.
