POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch, which operates a mission-based family and group conference and retreat center and residential summer camp, serving more than 50,000 guests annually. The Maintenance and Seasonal/Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the maintenance, repair, and service of all buildings at Snow Mountain Ranch, including the upkeep of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems. This position ensures high-quality work standards, adherence to established policies and safety procedures, and completion of technical and complex building and grounds tasks. This position will also lead, mentor, and empower a team of maintenance staff, fostering collaboration and professional growth to ensure that departmental, operational, and association goals are achieved. This is a working supervisor position that combines hands-on maintenance work with leadership responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure efficient and high-quality upkeep of all facilities through comprehensive knowledge of building construction.
  • Safely and effectively operate a wide range of hand and power tools common to the maintenance and construction industry.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Schedule and assign projects and staff efficiently to maximize productivity and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Train, orient, and mentor staff in safe work practices, effective maintenance methods, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and recommend professional development opportunities such as seminars or training sessions to enhance both personal and team expertise.
  • Supervise skilled and non-skilled maintenance staff, providing clear direction and fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with the Buildings Foreman regarding ongoing projects, staffing needs, and operational priorities.
  • Plan and prioritize workload for maximum efficiency while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and public relations when interacting with guests and staff.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support operations.
  • Possess a valid U.S. state-issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving policies.
  • Maintain the physical stamina required to perform the essential functions described herein.
  • Must have knowledge of key control systems, including both electronic locking systems and traditional hard key systems.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of residential and commercial buildings.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the supervision, hiring, and evaluation of skilled maintenance staff is preferred.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in electrical, heating, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software used for recordkeeping, maintenance requests, correspondence, and payroll; willingness to learn new programs as needed.
  • Experience with snow plowing and sanding operations preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and prioritize maintenance needs.
  • Must be able to read and communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately.
  • Skilled in conducting thorough evaluations of buildings and grounds to identify repair or improvement needs.
  • Excellent public relations, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Responsible for ensuring the quality, quantity, safety, and efficiency of all work completed within the Buildings Department.
  • Recommend necessary repairs, improvements, and prioritization of projects for planning and budgeting purposes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Buildings & Grounds Department to maintain a high standard of service for both guests and staff.
  • If residing on-site, serve as on-call at least one night per week; if living off-site, be available for emergency call-ins as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Work may take place indoors and outdoors, often in variable weather conditions such as snow, rain, wind, or sun.
  • Requires the ability to move about the property, including across uneven terrain, construction areas, and multiple building sites.
  • Regularly involves physical activities such as bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds independently and heavier loads with assistance.
  • Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to safely use tools, power equipment, and construction materials.
  • May involve working at heights or within confined spaces, following all safety protocols and using appropriate PPE.
  • The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud, depending on machinery and tasks performed.
  • Work requires effective communication and teamwork, maintaining professionalism in guest and staff interactions.
  • Employees are provided with and must appropriately use personal protective equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
