Camp Menogyn, located on the Gunflint Trail in Grand Marais, Minnesota, is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Wilderness Camp Program Support Lead, age 21 or older, to provide essential administrative and operational support for our summer programs. This is a seasonal position averaging 40 hours per week, starting at $120 per day, with shared seasonal room and board provided.

The Program Support Lead assists Camp Directors with a wide range of office-based responsibilities, including camper family communication, reviewing medical records, scheduling daily activities, maintaining accurate administrative documents, and supporting special events as needed. In addition to administrative tasks, this position supports camper supervision and transportation, including occasional in- and out-of-state driving for groups.

1. Job Summary:

The Wilderness Camp Program Support Lead is responsible for various administrative tasks, which may include ordering supplies, coordinating schedules, and completing all necessary reports.

2. Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Camp Directors in office duties including but not limited to: camper family communication, reviewing camper medical records, scheduling in-camp activities, filing paperwork, etc.

  • Work with special events, promotions, and any other special needs as they arise.

  • Ensure that all program area schedules are completed satisfactorily in a timely manner.

  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate program and administrative records.

  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.

  • Be responsible for knowing, understanding, training, and executing all camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp.

  • Be a leader in parent communication and address parent concerns in a timely manner. Seek the help of the Camp Program Directors when necessary.

  • Assist with the various office administrative tasks necessary for camp to run efficiently.

  • Assist with rotating overnight on-call duties and emergency response.

  • Support supervision and transportation of campers as needed.

  • Assist with in- and out-of-state driving for groups.

3. Relationships:

This position reports to the Camp Program Director who reports to Branch/Camp Sr. Program Director/Executive. The incumbent interacts regularly with camp staff, campers, and parents. This position involves interaction with camp staff, campers and parents from a diverse background.

4. Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED provided by YMCA or other certified organization (may be obtained upon hire but must be completed before an employee supervises youth).

  • Lifeguarding certification provided by YMCA or other certified organization (may be obtained upon hire but must be completed before an employee supervises youth).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child camping.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with database systems.

  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information.

  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work culture and assist with special projects as assigned.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

  • Maintain organized office systems, including filing, data entry, and document management.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for office communications, including phone.

5. Work Conditions:

  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities, which include hiking, canoeing, swimming, rustic construction, building campfires, physical games, and activities.

  • Must be capable of carrying loads of up to 50 pounds and able to traverse hilly and uneven terrain without undue exertion.

  • May work at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time if applicable.

  • Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.

  • Perform essential program support to camp activities and programs which may include, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces underground, overhead, and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs, and lying on stomach and/or back.

  • Ability to work with a computer for a prolonged period of time.

6. Provided Shared Housing:

  • Shared housing is provided as part of employment during the camp season.

  • Housing accommodations are typically in communal cabins or staff quarters shared with other seasonal staff.

  • Living spaces include basic furnishings such as beds and storage, with access to shared restroom and shower facilities.

  • Staff are expected to maintain clean, respectful, and community-oriented living environments.

7. Additional Notes:

This job description represents the major functions of the position but is not intended to be all-inclusive.
