Accountant - YMCA of the North Shore

In this entry-level role, you'll support the YMCA's financial operations by processing transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, and supporting month-end and year-end closing activities. • Process daily accounting transactions, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate general ledger records and ensure transactions are properly coded and documented.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Help prepare the annual operating budget and assist with updates to the organization's rolling 12-month financial forecast.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure the integrity of accounting data.

• Follow YMCA financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Assist with preparing documentation and schedules for annual audits.
• Support accurate financial reporting and maintain organized accounting records.

• Partner with Finance team members and YMCA branch staff to resolve accounting questions and discrepancies.
• Provide excellent internal customer service while supporting the financial needs of multiple YMCA locations.
• Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred (or currently working toward completion).
• Internship, coursework, or previous accounting experience is a plus but not required.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office; experience with accounting software is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

We're looking for a detail-oriented, collaborative professional who is eager to build a career in accounting while supporting the YMCA's mission.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• 1-2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred; recent graduates with relevant internship or practical accounting experience are encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software such as SAP, Intuit, or similar financial systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
