Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Climbing Wall attendant monitors and facilitates programming on the YMCA climbing wall to ensure participants safely practice and try new routines. The Climbing Wall Attendant provides comprehensive information on safety rules and promotes healthy living and relationship-building with climbing wall participants.

The Climbing Wall Attendant provides comprehensive information on safety rules and promotes healthy living and relationship-building with climbing wall participants.
Essential Functions
- Create and maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere for program participants, ensuring the space and equipment is clean and ready for use
- Belay members as they utilize the climbing wall, monitoring their comfort level and ensuring they feel comfortable and safe during their climbs.
- Conducts frequent safety checks of equipment, making necessary recommendations to the Youth Development Director for repair and replacement of materials
- Professionally communicate safety rules and expectations of conduct to participants
- Assist in developing and promoting program activities and special events to members
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required by the Youth Development Director
- Follows all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law, state licensing and the Y. Reports and maintain proper documentation of incidents/accidents as they occur
- Experience with rock climbing and belaying preferred, but not required
- Must successfully pass the YMCA belay certification test prior to belaying program participants.
- Experience in a safety intensive role or position preferred
- Completion of YMCA program-specific trainings upon hire
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

- The employee is regularly required to stand, use hand and wrist movement and strength, and use continuous physical effort in belaying participants for the duration of their shifts
- The employee is regularly required to communicate through oral and written comprehension and expression
- The employee is frequently required to bend, kneel, walk, and work in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
