What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor II - Exercise (cert.) position at YMCA of the East Valley?

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through overall wellness development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Instructor works under general supervision and provides quality leadership in the Group Exercise classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ability to instruct, lead, & modify group exercise routines for a variety of fitness levels.
  2. Ability to perform safe & effective group exercise routines for a variety of fitness levels.
  3. Ability to motivate & encourage members towards a healthy lifestyle.
  4. Serves as a positive role model for members.
  5. Maintains a supportive & positive class environment for members.
  6. Ability to communicate well.
  7. Shows a genuine interest in developing positive, ongoing relationships with members.
  8. Ability to engage members by learning about their Y Story and sharing the story of the YMCA.
  9. Follows the YMCA personnel policies, practices, salary administration plan, emergency procedures and risk management procedures.
  10. Assists with all other essential tasks as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  2. Obtain AED and O2 certifications within 30 days of hire.
  3. Experience participating in group exercise classes.
  4. A basic knowledge of health & fitness; with an emphasis in aerobics.
  5. Experience leading group exercise classes at least 6months – 1 year.
  6. Must possess current Group Exercise certification, I.E Body Pump, Body Combat, Core& Floor, Shapes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. The employee must be able to perform a variety of physical movements including bending, stepping, cycling, pushing, pulling, stretching, and/ or holding specific positions based on the specific style of group exercise class they are assigned to teach.
  2. The employee must be able to lift weights ranging in weight from 5 lbs to 25 lbs. The employee must be able to set-up weight &/or aerobic equipment for their specific class they are assigned to teach.

Background Check:

Once a conditional offer is made, candidates will be subject to criminal background check/fingerprinting, and physical examinations where required. YMCA of the East Valley participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary : $21 - $22
