POSITION SUMMARY:

These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. Responsible for the direct supervision, planning, and administration of Overnight Camp to ensure a safe, high quality camp experience in line with YMCA mission and values. The Program Director will support and grow our overnight summer camp, family programming, and group rental programs. As a key member of the camp leadership team, the Camp Youth and Family Program Director helps shape camp culture, ensures high-quality programming, and contributes to both short- and long-term goals aligned with the YMCA mission and the developmental needs of our community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Program Planning & Development: Fosters a climate of innovation to develop participant-focused programs which support long-term program growth aligned with YMCA mission, safety standards, and evolving community needs.

·         Staff Leadership & Supervision: Share responsibility for all stages of employee life cycle for seasonal teams up to 60; Provide coaching, mentorship, and ongoing feedback to support staff development and success.

·         Camper Experience & Program Quality: Ensure programs are developmentally appropriate, engaging, inclusive, and aligned with camp values. Provide leadership in managing camper behavior, community-building, and creating meaningful opportunities for personal growth, responsibility, and belonging.

·         Operations Support: Support overall camp operations by assisting with logistics, scheduling, equipment management, and readiness of program areas. Contribute to community well-being through stewardship tasks, which may include light maintenance, housekeeping, or kitchen duties as needed.

·         Safety, Risk Management & Compliance: Uphold and reinforce all YMCA, ACA, and state safety policies to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all campers and staff. Support emergency procedures, behavioral incidents, and crisis response with calm, clear leadership.

·         Customer Service & Family Support: Provide timely, professional communication to families and community partners. Handle sensitive or escalated matters with empathy, clarity, and excellent customer service.

·         Community Engagement & Relations: Support YMCA and community events as needed. Build positive relationships with families, staff, volunteers, and community groups to strengthen camp’s presence and mission impact.

·         Leadership: Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.

·         Professionalism: Model YMCA core values maintaining a positive, solution-focused attitude in a fast-paced environment

·         Other: Special project or other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

·         Ability to move throughout camp over varied terrain throughout the day.

·         Ability to stand for extended periods and respond quickly to operational needs and emergencies.

·         Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

·         Ability to work long, flexible, or irregular hours including evenings and occasional overnights for special events.

·         Operational role occurs primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.

JOB DETAILS:

Location: YMCA Camp Loma Mar, 9900 Pescadero Creek Rd, Loma Mar, CA

Housing: available year-round; full-time, on-site required May- August

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Strong belief in the YMCA mission and commitment to nurturing youth potential, building community, and supporting healthy living.

·         Experience in camp operations, youth development, or leadership roles preferred.

·         Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

·         Experience using scheduling tools, spreadsheets, or camp management systems is highly desirable.

·         Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and maintain composure in dynamic environments.

·         Ability to obtain certifications to support YMCA programs (CPR/FA/AED/O, Lifeguard/ACCT).

·         Minimum age 25 and at least two seasons of administrative or supervisory camp experience.

·         At least two prior seasons of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp or in a summer program working with children

·         Past management or leadership experience is required; experience hiring and managing teams of 5 or more is preferred.

·         Employment is contingent on background clearance and compliance with YMCA standards.
