What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Sports Assistant position at YMCA of Superior California?
Overview
Will assist in the successful operation of their Youth Sports Program. Youth Sports Instructors will conduct safe, fun, and effective youth sports programs, based on the YMCA of Superior California Healthy Lifestyles Standards and Guidelines.
Hours: Weekdays 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM when programs are in session Saturdays 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM when programs are in sessionBilingual (Spanish) a plus
Responsibilities
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in a sports program by providingclose supervision of all activities.
- Introduce children to the basic fundamental concepts of different games - basketball,soccer, tennis, gymnastics and karate.
- Assist the Lead Instructor with youth sport activities.
- Prepare the class format for each youth sports session.
- Provide sports instruction, i.e., perform drills and demos pertaining to different sports.
- Evaluate equipment and ensure safety of participants.
- Set-up and break down of equipment.
- Evaluate program and implement new opportunities.
- Track participant attendance.
- Provide guidance to youth.
- Actively participate in all training sessions and designated meetings.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- At least 18 years of age.
- 2 Years working with Youth in sports
- Coaching experience in basketball, Soccer, flag football.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days ofhire date
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriateprogram activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authenticrelationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Some previous experience working with children.
- Computer skills preferred.
