Job Title: Sports Coordinator

FLSA Status: Part-Time, Hourly
Reports to: Operations Director
JOB PURPOSE:
The Sports Coordinator will provide leadership and management of sports programming within the YMCA of St. Joseph. The Sports Coordinator manages participation and retention through the development and execution of sports programs, providing outstanding customer service to all participants.
Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assist with implementation, development and monitoring of all sports leagues, recreation programs, summer camps and clinics.
· Monitor and maintain proper field conditions and pre-game field and facility preparations.
· Assist with the implementation of program marketing & promotion for all programs and YMCA offerings at community-based events.
· Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff for assigned program areas.
· Assist in securing sports sponsorship and participation in Community Outreach
· Assist in keeping field, facilities, storage areas and offices clean, neat and organized
· Work collaboratively with the Operations Director and offer input in the development of departmental budgets including revenue generation and expenditure management.
· Run all program areas in accordance with YMCA quality standards. Ensure that program standards and quality guidelines are met or exceeded.
· Maintain adequate records to evaluate, control, and measure the effectiveness of assigned areas of responsibility.
· This role requires evenings shifts and weekends.
· Overall responsibility for producing quality program experiences and day-to-day management of assigned program areas and associated staff
Additional Responsibilities:
· Ensure collaboration with marketing team for program promotion.
· Participate in and provide leadership for the Annual Campaign in all assigned areas.
· Represent the YMCA and maintain appropriate relationships with area organizations, community leaders and businesses.
· Carry out special projects and other duties as assigned.
· Support and participate in all aspects of the youth development experience as well as the Association’s strategic goals.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:Required:
· Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
· Volunteer or Staff supervision experience
· Knowledge of sports programming, marketing, health and wellness and program implementation, ability to grow a sports program
Preferred:
· Associate degree in related field
· 2 years’ experience working in Sports Programming, health/wellness and managing staff
· Knowledge of budgeting & expense control
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· High level of concentration and aptitude for learning a wide variety of systems.
· Must be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with superiors, co-workers and customers.
· Ability to speak distinctly to communicate with customers and staff on the phone or in-person.
· Physically able to lift 35 pounds, lifting of equipment and supplies.
· Must be able to participate in activities.
· Knowledge and physical ability to respond in emergency situations.
· Ability to be flexible and adjust to a changing work environment.
· Sound judgment and problem-solving skills for dealing with daily issues in a variety of situations.
