Description

The Classroom Teacher understands the essential needs of the young child and supports both children and parents by creating joy-filled and life-nourishing environments that enhance growth and development during the critical first five years of life. Understanding that a healthy early childhood provides a strong foundation for the future development of individuals and humanity as a whole, the teacher will bring healthy movement opportunities, purposeful activities, nourishing images, and clear speech into his/her daily work with the children. The teacher will guide the children toward self-control, cooperation, social awareness, and a sense of belonging in the group.


Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, meets the need of all of the children in the class and encourages growth and exploration.
  • Interact, initiate and encourage the children in the activities during the day.
  • Help the children control behavior using a positive appropriate approach: always using a consistent technique and adhering to the discipline policies outlined in the staff manual.
  • Establish and maintain good communications with parents through parent/teacher conferences, daily reports, bulletin boards and on an informal daily basis.
  • Observe, record and report significant individual behavior using approved observation and assessment tools and techniques.
  • Maintain all records and files; including but not limited to: cleaning lists, attendance, anecdotal and developmental records, classroom and child portfolios, subfiles and curriculum.
  • Respect Early Care equipment, use resources wisely, and inform the director of the need for new equipment, supplies or repairs.
  • Adhere to all Early Care Center’s personnel and other policies found in the Early Care Center manual
  • Maintain and uphold NAEYC’s Code of Ethical Behavior and Statement of Commitment.
  • Nurture the children and also to help the children become independent.
  • Promote integral learning during meal times: to help the children acquire good social skills.
  • Share information concerning children with the co-teacher and center assistants concerning the activities.
  • Develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the room.
  • Attend staff meetings, graduation ceremony, Baccalaureate Service, Open House and prep day
  • Attend classes, workshops, and other training opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Interact with parents and other staff/volunteers to encourage their involvement in the program.
  • Create bulletin boards that are appealing, informative, current and includes the children’s work.
  • Interact frequently and respectfully, on a daily basis, with each child, at their eye-level.
  • Be responsive to individual children’s physical and emotional needs and maintain the needs of the group, i.e. changes to daily schedule.
  • Create a monthly, theme based lesson plan that includes the Florida Standards for children Birth to three and the child’s individual needs found on each child’s Individual Education Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director/DPIC

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possesses or is willing to obtain both the required DCF 45 hours and an FCCPC Staff Credential.
  • Is able to lift 50 lbs. on an ’as needed’ basis, 35 lbs. repeatedly, on a daily basis and can push 200 lbs. on a wheeled cart.
  • Can provide a satisfactory pre-employment physical exam and negative TB test
