What are the responsibilities and job description for the GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR position at YMCA OF SOUTH ALABAMA INC?
The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes for YMCA members of varying fitness levels. Instructors create a welcoming environment that promotes health and wellness, encourages member retention, and reflects the core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Plan and lead group fitness classes following YMCA guidelines and safety protocols.

Provide modifications and progressions to accommodate all fitness levels.

Arrive on time, prepared, and maintain a clean and professional appearance.

Build relationships with participants to encourage class attendance and healthy lifestyles.

Ensure the fitness studio or exercise area is clean, organized, and equipment is used properly.

Respond to emergencies according to YMCA procedures.

Record class attendance as required.

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education as needed.

Uphold YMCA policies, mission, and core values.

Current Group Fitness Instructor certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise).

CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire).

Previous experience teaching group fitness classes preferred.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to motivate and inspire individuals in a group setting.

Ability to lead physical fitness activities for extended periods.

Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
