Mill Creek Elementary

Penny Creek Elementary

Seattle Hill Elementary

Silver Firs Elementary

Tambark Creek Elementary

What you will do at the Y:

As a Before & After School Assistant, you'll work directly with children in a licensed school-age child care program. You'll help lead games, activities, homework support, and enrichment opportunities while ensuring every child feels safe, included, and supported.

Working alongside the Site Coordinator, you will help create a positive environment where children can learn, grow, and belong.

 

Work Schedule

This is an in-person, part-time position working directly with children.

Work hours are a combination of:

  • Morning shifts before school
  • Afternoon shifts after school
  • Full-day shifts (up to 8 hours) on non-school days and during school breaks

Schedules vary based on school start and end times and program needs. Additional hours may be available during the summer through employment at a YMCA Day Camp.

Job duties/Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a supportive team to provide a high-quality program.
  • Supervise all children and activities within the program area.
  • Help implement and lead daily lessons, games, crafts, enrichment, and group activities.
  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and inclusion of every child.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program space.
  • Participate in staff meetings, family events, and training opportunities.
  • Comply with state and local regulations as well as YMCA standards and procedures
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

·        Minimum age 18

·        Meet educational and experience qualifications established by Dept of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF)

o   Have a high school diploma or equivalent;

·        Provide documentation of all certification and training requirements established by the DCYF, including position prerequisites, current negative TB test, fully vaccinated for MMR/other required vaccinations*, and portable background check

·        Plan, organize, and implement high quality developmentally appropriate programming

·        Fluency in second language preferred

Physical Demands:

As directed, lead and participate in a range of activities in indoor/outdoor settings. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise program activities. Staff may be required to move weights of approximately 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; may use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with members, staff, volunteers, and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied individuals.
