What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health and Wellness Director - Central position at YMCA of Silicon Valley?
This position, in partnership with the branch leadership team, will direct efforts to increase member engagement, help members reach their health goals, and build relationships through wellness program development. The Healthy Living Director is responsible for: implementing ongoing tactics to engage new and returning members, supporting health and wellness goals through innovative programs and services, and building and directly supervising the healthy living department team.
The Healthy Living Director takes an active role in the branch's Annual Giving Campaign, including donor and volunteer cultivation. Improving the health and wellness of the community we serve and relationship building with members is a high priority, as is the impact it has on member retention.
SALARY RANGE: $78,500.00 - $80,000.00/year
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implements health and wellness strategies that support the engagement and retention of existing members.
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and evaluates staff
- Develops and directs high-quality wellness programs, services, and member engagement that support the branch and association's mission, goals, and strategies.
- Manages the Wellness Center's daily operations. Maintains fitness equipment cleanliness and safety and cultivates relationships with equipment vendors.
- Develops, manages, and monitors the wellness operating budget and meets or exceeds budget targets.
- Daily operations of the Group Fitness Program, including teaching classes, auditing classes and providing instructor feedback.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the charitable work of the YMCA and accepts a leadership role in the activities and events of the YMCA Annual Campaign.
- Ensure compliance with abuse risk management practices by screening employees and volunteers, providing ongoing training, supervision, and feedback on boundaries, enforcing policies, responding promptly and appropriately to violations and reports, adhering to mandated reporting requirements, communicating organizational commitment to safety, and reporting key information to the board of directors.
- Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
- Maintain a safe environment at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor degree or 1 year experience and knowledge in fitness principles and applications as related to exercise physiology, bio-mechanics and exercise prescription required preferred.
- Effective organizational and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication; Bilingual a plus.
- Experience using technology.
- Ability to build relationships with staff, members, and participants.
- Ability to multi-task, and make sound independent judgments.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, may include nights and weekends.
