The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Climbing Wall Staff to join our team!

As a Climbing Wall Staff, you will instruct class participants in climbing wall classes and activities. If hired for this position, you will prepare lesson plans with a natural progression while enforcing all safety rules and regulations at the climbing wall, while creating a fun and exciting environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will prepare lesson plans with a natural progression appropriate to the age and ability of the participant.
- You will lead and assist participants in skill development and activities.
- You will enforce all safety rules and regulations at the climbing wall, while creating a fun and exciting environment.

- You have experience or education in recreation, physical education, or related field.
- You are belay certified (preferred).
- You have a positive attitude and previous experience with youth and diverse populations.
- You have knowledge and skills in rock climbing and related equipment, and the ability to instruct participants in techniques.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications (preferred).
- Willing to complete Child Abuse Prevention training on first day and other online or in-person training as required.
- Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
Wage: $17.13 to $17.16 per hour, depending on qualifications
Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week
Location: Tom Taylor Family YMCA, Gig Harbor, WA

Position Summary |

Climbing Wall Staff will instruct class participants in climbing wall classes and activities. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. |
Key Responsibilities
|
· Prepare lesson plans with a natural progression appropriate to the age and ability of the participant. · Lead and assist participants in skill development and activities appropriate for each age group. · Encourage sportsmanship and teachable moments to implement our core values. · Assist in creating age appropriate lesson plans to ensure fun, high-energy classes. · Work alongside volunteers to assist with programming. · Responsible for instruction of climbing skills and progression. · Enforce all safety rules and regulations at the climbing wall. · Finish each class with a fun group activity. Incorporate and discuss the YMCA values and mission statement in the teaching of climbing wall classes. · Show excitement through voice, actions, and posture. · Keep accurate records of each class participant's progress reports. · Track class attendance. · Communicate with parents and supervisor regarding participant's performance. · Responsible for class participant's supervision and safety. · Provide safety briefings to parents and participants. · Provide touch cards and in person communication to parents advertising upcoming events and need for class support. · Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission. · Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events. · Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas. · Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment. · Other duties as assigned. |
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
