What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director of Youth Development-Childcare & Camp position at YMCA OF PAWTUCKET?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Youth Development and MacColl Executive Director, the Youth Development Director has a primary impact in the overall success and effectiveness of the YMCA of Pawtucket’s Before and After School goals and objectives and Summer Day Camp. The individual in this position is responsible for overall operation management of the branch based before and after school site and summer programming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work in partnership with the Executive Director and Senior Vice President of Youth Development to create and implement an operational plan for out-of-school and summer camp programming in services to the YMCA of Pawtucket’s mission and vision.
- Interact effectively with youth, staff, and guests to uphold the “Kids and Guests First” philosophy.
- Create program goals, objectives, outcomes and evaluation instruments before the start of each school year and summer.
- Oversee program evaluation and utilize evaluation findings in program development to ensure positive outcomes.
- Create and implement an operational plan for out-of-school time and summer day camp programming, including seasonal staffing, schedules, and site readiness to ensure high-quality, safe, and engaging programs.
- Develop and direct youth engagement strategies and programs to retain and grow enrollment/participation including the creation of family activities to engage families and the community.
- Create and manage annual department operating budget in conjunction with the Senior Vice President of Development and MacColl Executive Director.
- Oversee the professional development needs of staff and maintain current knowledge of the education and youth development fields.
- Actively participate in staff meetings, school and district meetings and trainings as required.
- Build quality relationships with partners, participants, and families.
- Respond to all communication and pertinent discussions in a timely manner.
- Complete all local, state and federal documentation as needed for various funding sources.
- Ensure compliance with all camp licensing requirements, YMCA safety standards, staff-to-camper ratios, and mandated reporting practices.
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
- Assigned Manager on Duty shifts during the week and select weekends.
- Implement the Collections report and communicate with families of past due balances.
- Work a minimum of 2 morning and 3 afternoon shifts.
- All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Administrator qualifications set forth by the DHS Licensing agency.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, methods of teaching, and evaluation.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing staff.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience managing program budgets.
- Successful fund development experience.
- Proven ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual orientation backgrounds.
- Familiarity and experience working in or with schools and with community based
- organizations.
- Understanding of community- and school-based programming based upon Youth Development, the Learning in Afterschool & Summer Principles, the Common Core State
- Standards, and the Five Protective Factors.
- Able to effectively communicate to individuals and groups, both orally and in writing.
- Passionate about developing and sustaining quality services for youth and families, and a desire to learn and understand the needs of YMCA’s / school partners’ / institutional partner’s constituents, staff, and partners.
- Meets all state required conditions of employment as set forth by Community Care Licensing for a Licensed Community Care facility, i.e. Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index clearance, TB/Health Physical, valid CDL and clean driving record.
- CPR/First Aid certified required within 3 months of hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
Salary : $60,000 - $65,000
