What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth and Government - MUN Volunteer position at YMCA of Orange County?
GENERAL PURPOSE: The YMCA values volunteers as essential partners in fulfilling our mission to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Through programs like Youth and Government MUN, volunteers help empower young people to become engaged citizens and leaders by fostering civic education, character development, and life skills. By creating positive learning environments and supporting activities such as coaching, mentoring, tutoring, and event assistance, volunteers make a lasting impact on youth and the community while gaining personal fulfillment.
KEY VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand and support the volunteer programs, goals, and objectives of the YMCA as a community organization
- Provide guidance and instruction to youth, teens, and/or adults in assigned program area
- Assist with planning and organizing program schedules and activities
- Follow and enforce safety regulations and applicable policies, and report any incidents or injuries to YMCA staff
- Assist with teaching character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
- Come dressed for the activities assigned
- Ensure that communication with members, staff, and the public is friendly and professional
- Arrive on time for volunteer assignment and be flexible if needs change for volunteer assignment
- Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and appropriate manner
- Perform additional enumerated responsibilities of specific volunteer role
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years or older
- CPR and First Aid certification required if volunteering without staff present
- Volunteer should interact well with children, teens, and/or adults
- Have a professional and positive approach to volunteering
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Able to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures
- Ability to Travel and attend the MUN summit May1st - May 3rd
- Ability to attend weekly meetings and a one-day training
